Avoid buying a “Home” version of any Microsoft product (like Windows XP Home, Vista Home Basic or Vista Home Premium). The “professional” versions of these operating systems contain a whole host of unique features and utility offerings that make operating, maintaining and upgrading the software so much easier. The cost associated with the loss of these features will far exceed any cost saving by purchasing the cheaper software version.
For example, Windows XP Professional contains a utility called Remote Desktop that allows users to safely work with their computer from a remote location via the Internet as if the user was actually sitting at the keyboard. XP Home does not have this feature, necessitating the installation of an external utility. Why not buy the Business version of Windows instead of the Home Edition which will then require a $200 copy of PCAnywhere?
